AcademicDB

A blockchain platform that issues and verifies digital university degrees. Built end to end, from strategy and chain infrastructure to the web app.

AcademicDB cover

AcademicDB is a platform for issuing and verifying digital degrees on a blockchain, built end to end by eNamia. It grew out of a simple observation: replacing a lost diploma is slow and expensive, and the systems institutions rely on to manage them were never designed for verification at scale.

Unveiling the degree loss dilemma

Our research started with the people closest to the problem. Led by founder and CEO Aimane Lahssini, we interviewed prominent schools including AP Hogeschool Antwerpen, KdG, Odisee, Thomas Moore, PXL, HE2B (ISIS), HE Léonard de Vinci and Erasmushogeschool Brussel to understand how degrees are issued, stored and replaced today.

Working with the institutions

We collaborated closely with higher education institutions and their secretarial staff. Through in-depth discussions we mapped the real workflow behind degree management, looked specifically at how the LED (Leer en Ervaring Databank) operates, and catalogued the friction it created for the teams using it every day.

Erasmus University College played a key role in this phase, giving us a setting to test the solution with the secretarial staff who would actually use it. Their feedback shaped the interface and let us tune AcademicDB into something practical rather than theoretical.

Choosing the technology: Hyperledger Fabric

We evaluated several options before landing on Hyperledger Fabric. Its permissioned model, privacy guarantees and scalability matched what higher education institutions actually need: verifiable records without publishing student data to a public chain. With our Hyperledger specialist leading the implementation, we built the chain infrastructure from scratch.

The team behind it

  • Aimane Lahssini, founder and CEO; business strategy, website development and project management across the build.
  • Rafail Kiloudis, blockchain developer and API expert; built the blockchain infrastructure from scratch.
  • Ricardo Mayorga, front-end and back-end developer; built the interface and the user experience around it.
  • Amin Khorari, project management and coordination, particularly through the pivot toward a new geographic market.

Conclusion

AcademicDB brought together research, institutional collaboration and a blockchain stack chosen on merit rather than hype. It remains the clearest demonstration of what eNamia does end to end: strategy, architecture, development and design under one roof.
